The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are the most critical period for your baby's organ development.
Folic Acid
Folic acid is vital for preventing neural tube defects:
- 400-800 mcg daily is recommended
- Green leafy vegetables and legumes are rich sources
Iron
As your blood volume increases, so does your iron need:
- Red meat, chicken, fish are good sources
- Take with vitamin C for better absorption
Foods to Avoid
- Raw fish and seafood
- Unpasteurized dairy products
- Excessive caffeine (limit to 200mg per day)
