The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are the most critical period for your baby's organ development.

Folic Acid

Folic acid is vital for preventing neural tube defects:

  • 400-800 mcg daily is recommended
  • Green leafy vegetables and legumes are rich sources

Iron

As your blood volume increases, so does your iron need:

  • Red meat, chicken, fish are good sources
  • Take with vitamin C for better absorption

Foods to Avoid

  • Raw fish and seafood
  • Unpasteurized dairy products
  • Excessive caffeine (limit to 200mg per day)
